Barcelona, October 29, 2012. - Sunday October 28th saw the closing of eighteenth annual ANIMALADDA an event that puts the focus on the welfare and protection of abandoned animals. The event took place at the Barcelona exhibition centre, the Palau Sant Jordi, and was opened on Friday 26 October by the Director General of Natural Environment and Biodiversity, Mr. Josep Escorihuela, and Councilman for Presidency and Territory of the City Council of Barcelona, ??Mr. Jordi Martí i Galbis.
Also, on Sunday 28th, the Mayor of Barcelona, ??Hon. Xavier Trias, visited the Fair. Although he has visited the fair in previous years this was his first attendance as Mayor of Barcelona. The trend for an increasingnumber of visitors has continued : this year between 8,000 and 9,000 people.
The number of adoptions has been considerable, despite the crisis: 130 animals, dogs and cats were adopted in the Fair and another 30 adoptions were arranged with some fo the 21 shelters that participated in theFair . As in previous years, we expected that in the days after the fair the number of adoptions will increase.
For the first time, the Mounted Unit and the Canine Unit of the Guardia Urbana de Barcelona attended the Fair.
Also, for the first time, the Salon invited members of the Parliamentary Association in Defense of Animals - APDDA, incorporated in the Congress of Deputies in Madrid, to participate in a debate attended by the deputy of the Aragonese party and APDDA coordinator, Chesús Yuste, and Senators Josep Maldonado (CiU) and Jordi Guillot (ICV)
Prizes of the 3rd Drawing Contest of Ngo ADDA “Love us and Take care of us” were awarded to the 10 schools of Barcelona which participated in the contest.
