Neutering is the best prevention against abandonment

Last May 2013, in Nashville (USA) a Congress' Animal Care Expo 2013 was held. The congress was organized by the association HSUS - Humane Society of the United States. This International Congress was directed toward the various sectors dealing with pets (shelters, volunteers, veterinarians).

In the United States, campaigns are being carried out to sterilize dogs and cats. In addition public information campaigns are being run about how neutering helps to prevent unwanted pets. In some States, mobile units circulate in remote places where there are not veterinarians, carrying out the spay/neutering of a large number of dogs and cats every day. Furthermore, in the State of New Hampshire, sterilizations are subsidized - pet guardians pay only $ 10. This campaign has been so successful that there is now more demand for adoptions than there are animals available in shelters.

In Spain, the non-profit association, Mascoteros Solidarios, an organization devoted to animal protection, introduced in March 2013 its new Mobile Veterinary Unit. Among other objectives, one of the aims of the Veterinary Mobile Unit will be to carry out neutering campaigns across the country to help reduce the pressure on animal shelters.
