August 2013. - The City Council of Barcelona did not allow the filming of several bullfighting scenes with bulls in the Monumental, for the movie "The Gunman" starring Javier Bardem and Sean Penn.
In April 2004, the plenary meeting of Barcelona City Council, took an historic vote and officially declared Barcelona, by a majority, an anti-bullfighting city. ADDA had actively campaigned toward the achievement of this decision. As a direct consequence of this decision, the City Council decision makers considered that this filming would contravene Barcelona bylaws and the Catalan law for the protection of animals.
The City Council remained firm in its decision and offered an alternative to the production team of the film: to use oxen for the scenes instead of fighting bulls and then apply digital retouching to have appearance of bulls.
ADDA congratulates the City Council for this decision.
