Barcelona , 30/10/2013.- Sunday October 27th saw the closing of the nineteenth annual ANIMALADA, an event that puts the focus on the welfare and protection of abandoned animals. The event took place at the Barcelona exhibition centre, the Palau Sant Jordi, and was opened on Friday 25th October by the Councilman for Presidency and Territory of the City Council of Barcelona, Mr. Jordi Martí i Galbis and the subdirector of Biodiversity of the Generality of Catalonia, Mr. Ignasi Rodriguez Galindo.
This year the number of visitors was similar to 2012 : it has maintained a steady trend between 7,000 and 8,000 . There were a good number of adoptions, despite the financial crisis: a hundred animals ,split equallybetween cats and dogs, were adopted at the Fair and other adoptions were arranged with the 23 Shelters that participated in the Fair. As in previous years, we expect that, in the days following the fair, the number of adoptions will increase.
This year the Mounted Unit and the Canine Unit of the Guardia Urbana de Barcelona also attended the Fair.
As part of the celebration of the 9th Salon Animaladda , the Councillor of the Presidency and Territory of the City Council of Barcelona , Mr. Jordi Martí Galbis , announced at a press conference that the city of Barcelona and TMB ( Transports Metropolitans of Barcelona) have reached an agreement to allow, from September 2014, dogs on the Barcelona Metro.
