Barcelona, June 2014.- 30 environmental groups, including DEPANA and ADDA, signed a petition calling for a new location for the Bulli Foundation. They have done so due to concerns about the environmental impact that this urban project would cause in the Natural Park of Cap de Creus" (Girona). This project would involve the construction of a building of at least 3,000 m2, but could be as much as 5,000 m2, in Montjoi cove a protected area belonging to the hard-won Natural Park of Cap de Creus.
The government of the Generalitat, through the Minister of Territory and Sustainability supports the Bulli Fundation ,and consequently is promoting in the Parliament of Catalonia a specific law to allow this project to go forward.
The environmental groups believe that, although the Bulli Foundation is an interesting and potentially beneficial, project, it should be located elsewhere. They also believe that it would set an exceptional precedent in the law, because it is a specific law for a particular place, and for the benefit of a private entity, and therefore should be subject to serious evaluation.
The protection of the natural environment must prevail over private interests, however relevant these may be.
