Toro de la Vega 2014, the brutality continues

Barcelona September.- Regrettably, once again, on September 16th , the barbaric “Toro de la Vega” event, was held in Tordesillas (Valladolid). In this event the bull named Elegido (Chosen ) was chased by hunters on horseback who stabbed him with spears until he collapsed. Then he was finished off. The Animal Party, PACMA, organized a demonstration in Tordesillas and serious clashes occurred during the event between animal defenders and the people of Tordesillas. Some demonstrators were stoned and seriously injured.

While the indignation of the majority Spanish people is growing, against this brutal spectacle, which even so is defined as a ‘popular tradition’, the government does not take action. Equally the EU refuses to take a position, alleging that, as for bullfights, this is a tradition that does not concern the EU.

Animal abuse is one of the gauges that indicates the progress, or lack of progress, of a nation. Spain must take the decision to put an end to the torture of innocent animals. We quote the words of Dolors Marsans, one of the first Spanish animal rights advocates: "There is nothing more disgusting than torturing an animal for fun"

Ong ADDA, which has been contacting the authorities and politicians for many years, joined the demonstration on 13 September in Madrid under the slogan "Rompe una lanza" (break a lance), at which thousands of people gathered to take part.
