Dr. Brian Hare and Proyecto Gran Simio in Spain have launched an international campaign in Change.org to denounce that 66 captive chimpanzees in Liberia – Africa have been abandoned by the New York Blood Center (NYBC) and are in danger of dying of dehydration and starvation. The NYBC is a large American organization that provides blood, develops blood related products, but also conducts medical research. For years they used these chimpanzees in medical research. But in January, the NYBC decided to withdraw all funding for chimpanzees’ care, despite its previous commitment to the lifetime care of them.

After decades of confinement, these poor chimpanzees do not have the skills to survive in the wild. They are completely reliant on humans for survival.
