Members of the Portuguese Parliament will ask explanations to the government for violating the UN recommendations on the protection of children from “violence of bullfighting”. These statements took place in June 2015 during the presentation of the International anti-bullfighting Network in Portugal.
Ngo ADDA is a member of this worldwide communication platform for members of the anti-bullfighting movement. In February 2014 the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child , in relation to bullfighting in Portugal, urged the Portuguese government to take measures to protect children and adolescents from the violence of bullfighting.
During the presentation of the International Network, the child protection coordinator of Amnesty International reported that the Portuguese rules authorizing the participation of children in bullfighting activities violates the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child as well as the Portuguese Labor law, which prohibits the participation of children in cultural activities that expose them to danger, including having contact with wild or not wild animals.
