ADDA's statement regarding the Constitutional Court ruling

In view of the ruling of the Constitutional Court which overturns the ban on bullfighting in Catalonia, Ngo ADDA, which began this long process in 2004 on the occasion of the Forum of Cultures, which culminated in the Barcelona Declaration as an “anti-bullfighting city ", and then moved to the Parliament of Catalonia where was passed a Popular Legislative Initiative, ILP, initiated by the Civic Platform" PROU ", states the following:

  • This ruling allegedly responds and coincides with political and bullfighting interests who appealed and have been influencing to impose their will, ignoring the value of a democratic and participatory process of citizens that was developed with all transparency.

  • The decision of the Constitutional Court allegedly reasserts the concerns of the Spanish people towards the current political and democratic system that leads to a continuous disappointment.

  • The work of social groups, ethical debates, social demands to ban cruelty and torture as a spectacle and the suffering of animals, is still ignored by certain government sectors.

  • It is absolutely unacceptable that in the XXI century and in a European country, public spectacles of torure and death of animals are mandatory by law.

This incomprehensible situation and the commitment of the spokespeople of the Parliament of Catalonia, the Government of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council encourages all of us to find appropriate mechanisms to prevent the reoccurrence of these depressing and anachronistic bloody spectacles of death and suffering to an animal.
