Ong ADDA is the representative in Spain of the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE). We collaborate with Doctors Against Animal Experiments Germany, also member of ECEAE, in their campaign aimed to on EISAI a Japanese firm, that still uses animals for their botox tests.
Each batch of botulinum toxin (“botox”) is tested with the so called LD50 poisoning test which is conducted to determine the dose that will kill 50% of the mice. The substance is injected into the abdomen of the animals and causes appalling suffering. The mice become increasingly paralysed, and eventually suffocate to death.
See below the text of the postcard addressed to EISAI FARMACÉUTICA, S.A., the Spanish branch located in Madrid:
Dear Sir, dear Madam,
I am appalled to learn that your company commissions the contract laboratory LPT to test your botulinum toxin B product Neurobloc® in cruel LD50 tests on mice. For 2014 alone experiments on 60,000 mice were licensed for this purpose.
Other manufacturers have moved already to tests on human cells instead of animals. I urge you to stop the LD50 test on mice immediately and replace this cruel test with an animal-free alternative.
Please contact us and we will send you the postcards (in Spanish) http://www.addaong.org/workspace//uploads/campanas/postal-campana-botox-copia.pdf
