Faced with the urgent need to save the Red Tuna from extinction, NGO ADDA has launched a campaign.

The case of the Red Tuna is extraordinary because it once was one of the most abundant fish in the seas, yet now it is on the point of extinction. This is due to several causes:

• wide net fishing, or ´purse seining’ the most common method in which the Red Tuna is fished,
• the fact that it is hunted during the spawning period,
• above all, illegal fishing, estimated at 61,000 tons per year, which constitutes an act of pure piracy.

Together these factors have brought this species to the edge of extinction. It is calculated that 80% of the population has gone.
