Initial aims and achievements

ANIMAL PROTECTION LAW. Given that in Spain there was a lack of specific legislation on the subject, one of the first and foremost goals set by ADDA was to channel all its efforts into petitioning for, repeatedly and for years, a legal setting, specifically to protect animals, whereby multiple legal aspects are contemplated to protect them.

At last, in 1984, the first law was proposed in the Parliament of Catalonia, and in the month of March 1988 a second proposal was approved and passed by all the Catalonian political parties.

This first Law passed to Protect Animals was a reference and detonator so that other autonomous communities, conscience of the necessity, drew up subsequent autonomous laws.
Since then ADDA has continued to work on legal aspects, pressurising and achieving reforms and changes as important as those that have been included in the new wording of the Animal Protection Law in Catalonia (22/2003).
