Barcelona, 17th October 2011 .- Sunday 16th October saw the closing of seventh annual ANIMALADDA an event that puts the focus on the welfare and protection of abandoned animals. The event took place at the Barcelona exhibition centre, the Palau Sant Jordi, and was opened on Friday 14 October by H. Mr. Josep Maria Pelegrí, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fishing, Food and Natural Environment.
22 animal protection organisations and 5 rescue centres participated in this year’s ANIMALADDA, and more than 300 cats and dogs were shown during the 3 days of the event. There were over 170 direct adoptions of dogs and cats and it is expected that in the days following the show, others adoptions will take place at the animal centres as a direct consequence of the ANIMALADDA Fair. The number of visitors slightly exceeded that of previous years and is estimated at over 10,000. The visiting public showed themselves very sensitive to the situation of the animals.
The show also addressed the issues of the pressures affecting nature and that of sensitive conservationism with an exhibition entitled "Save the Sea" which offered a comprehensive view of the damage that is occurring in our seas and oceans.
