UNITED AGAINST CRUELTY
International Anti-bullfighting Conference
CONFERENCE RESOLUTION
We, the participants of the Bullfighting: United Against Cruelty Conference, held on 21-22 February 2008 in Barcelona, Spain:
- Recognising that animals used in bullfights are sentient beings (with the ability to feel pain and to suffer);
- Recognising that there is considerable evidence that bullfighting is a cruel practice which publicly inflicts atrocious pain on sentient and innocent animals;
- Recognising that current EU animal welfare legislation calls on member governments to ensure that animals do not endure avoidable pain or suffering;
- Acknowledging that polls show that the majority of Catalan people do not regard bullfighting as a part of Catalan culture;
Recognising the wide range of academic and cultural fields represented at this conference;
THEREFORE
Call upon the Catalan Parliament to vote in favour of an amendment to article 6.2a of the Catalan Animal Protection Law and abolish definitely the exemption that allows bullfighting.
I support the conference resolution
